Are you facing your fears?

Fear…it is the one emotion that we all experience at some point in our life but most of us try our best not to face it.  Whether it is the fear of failure, fear of starting a new chapter, fear of rejection or fear of an uncertain future, every day we are put into situations that cause us to face our fears.

The energy of fear has been most prevalent this year as we are at a point in our life cycle where each one of us has been forced to experience this emotion head on. Many of us have lost loved ones due to the pandemic causing us to face the fear of death; Most of us have been quarantined in our homes causing us to face the fear of being alone; Some of us have lost our jobs causing us to face the fear of not being able to provide for our families; And every day we are bombarded with political ads that cause us to face the fear of uncertainty for our country.

As humans, fear is a natural emotion that allows us to respond appropriately to dangerous situations and triggers the fight-or-flight response. This is a physiological reaction that releases hormones in our bodies as we make the choice to either stay in a situation and fight or run away.  This response is built into our DNA as it is what our ancestors used when they had to face dangerous situations in their environments. It also triggers several changes within our bodies that in the short term are necessary and helpful, but sustained over time can be harmful.

·        Increased heart rate – can lead to heart attack

·        Increased respiratory breathing – stress on lungs, lack of oxygen

·        Muscle tension – muscle soreness, neck, shoulders, back pain

·        Increased blood flow to the brain – lack of clarity and headaches

Learning how to face our fears head on is key to our success as we continue to navigate these uncertain times. Thich Nhat Hanh in his book Fear: Essential Wisdom for Getting Through the Storm said “The only way to ease our fear and be truly happy is to acknowledge our fear and look deeply at its source. Instead of trying to escape from our fear, we can invite it up to our awareness and look at it clearly and deeply.” During your meditations, take a moment to think about some of the things that you are not manifesting in your life due to fear.  Have you not started the business that you have always dreamed off? Are you afraid to ask someone out on a date? Are you stuck in a bad job or relationship?  Bring those situations to the forefront of your awareness, figure out the core of your fears and start releasing that energy so you can start to move forward and create the life that you deserve.

Tips for coping with fear

-        Meditate – bring your awareness to what you are afraid of as you connect with the God of your heart

-        Breathe – focus on your breath to allow more oxygen into your body which allows you to think more clearly

-        Journal - write a list of the fears that you are facing right now

-        Release – ask that these energies be released from your space

-        Visualize – think about what you want to see happen in your life as you become fearless

We would love to hear from you so let us know what fears your are facing in today’s environment.

Love and light always!
